Blessed Beyond Measure

Morning: Deuteronomy 33-34
Evening: Luke 1:24-56

As Moses blessed the tribes of Israel before his passing (Deuteronomy 33), he reminded them of God’s faithfulness, protection, and provision. Each blessing was unique, yet all pointed back to the goodness of God, who was their refuge and strength. Even though Moses did not enter the Promised Land, he saw it from afar, knowing that God’s promise would be fulfilled (Deuteronomy 34).

In Luke 1, we see another kind of blessing—Mary’s response to the angel’s message that she would bear the Son of God. Instead of fear, she embraced God’s will with faith and humility, praising Him in her song, the Magnificat (Luke 1:46-55). Mary’s joy was not rooted in her circumstances but in the faithfulness of God. Like Israel and Mary, we are called to recognize God’s blessings, trust His plans, and rejoice in His goodness, even when we do not fully understand His ways.

Key Insights

  1. God’s Blessings are Purposeful – Just as Moses’ blessings over Israel were specific, God’s blessings in our lives are intentional and meant to fulfill His divine plan (Deuteronomy 33:1-29).
  2. God’s Presence is Our Strength – Moses reminded Israel that God was their refuge, their everlasting arms upholding them (Deuteronomy 33:27). No matter what we face, we are never alone.
  3. Faith Welcomes God’s Will – Mary’s response to the angel was one of surrender: “Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word” (Luke 1:38). Faith trusts God’s plan even when it is unexpected.
  4. True Joy Comes from Trusting God – Mary’s song of praise (Luke 1:46-55) reminds us that joy is not found in worldly things but in the goodness and faithfulness of God.
  5. God Fulfills His Promises – Moses saw the Promised Land, and Mary saw the fulfillment of the Messiah’s coming. God’s promises may take time, but they are always sure.
