Choose This Day Whom You Will Serve
Morning: Joshua 23-24
Evening: Luke 6:27-49
In Joshua 24:15, Joshua presents Israel with a challenge: “Choose you this day whom ye will serve.” After years of seeing God’s faithfulness, Israel had a choice—would they follow the Lord wholeheartedly, or turn to other gods?
Jesus gives a similar call in Luke 6. He tells us to love our enemies, build our lives on a firm foundation, and live out our faith in ways that reveal a transformed heart. Following Jesus is not about outward religion but about a deep, personal commitment that affects how we treat others and how we respond to life’s challenges.
Both Joshua and Jesus remind us that faith is a daily choice. Will we trust God, obey His Word, and reflect His love? Or will we settle for a shallow faith that does not endure the storms of life?
Key Insights
- Faith is a Choice – Just as Israel had to choose to follow God, we must daily choose to trust Him, obey His Word, and serve Him with our whole heart (Joshua 24:15).
- Love Defines True Faith – Jesus commands us to love even our enemies, showing that our faith is not just about believing but about living in a way that reflects God’s character (Luke 6:27-36).
- Obedience Brings Stability – Those who hear and obey Jesus’ words are like a house built on a rock. When trials come, they stand firm (Luke 6:46-49).
- The Heart is Revealed by Actions – A good tree produces good fruit. Our lives should reflect Christ, proving that our faith is genuine (Luke 6:43-45).
- Commitment to God Must Be Wholehearted – Joshua warns Israel not to waver between two loyalties. We cannot serve God halfway; He calls for complete devotion (Joshua 23:6-8).
Connection to Other Scripture
- Deuteronomy 30:19 (KJV): “I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.” – Every day, we must choose faith and obedience.
- Matthew 7:24-25 (KJV): “Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock.” – Obedience to God’s Word provides stability.
- James 2:17 (KJV): “Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.” – True faith is demonstrated through actions.
Questions to Reflect On
- Have I fully committed my heart and life to serving God, or am I holding onto distractions?
- How does my love for others—especially difficult people—reflect my relationship with Christ?
- When challenges come, do I stand firm on God’s truth, or do I struggle because my foundation is weak?
- Does my life produce good fruit that honors God, or are there areas that need pruning?
- What steps can I take today to actively choose to serve the Lord with greater devotion?
A Prayer for Today
