Faith Over Fear, Trust Over Doubt

Morning: Numbers 11-13
Evening: Mark 5:21-43

In Numbers 11-13, we see the Israelites wavering between faith and doubt. They grumbled about their provisions, longed for Egypt, and feared the giants in the Promised Land rather than trusting in God’s power. In contrast, Mark 5:21-43 introduces us to two individuals who exemplify faith—Jairus, who believed Jesus could heal his dying daughter, and the woman with the issue of blood, who reached out in faith for healing. These stories remind us that faith is not about what we see but about whom we trust. God is always greater than the obstacles before us, and when we choose faith over fear, we open the door for His power to work in our lives.

Key Insights:

  1. Doubt Distorts Reality – The ten spies saw the giants in Canaan and immediately forgot about the God who had parted the Red Sea. Fear magnifies our problems and minimizes God’s power (Numbers 13:31-33).
  2. Faith Moves God’s Heart – The woman with the issue of blood believed that just touching Jesus’ garment would heal her. Her faith made her whole (Mark 5:34).
  3. God’s Power Is Not Limited by Circumstances – Jairus’ daughter was pronounced dead, but Jesus assured him, “Be not afraid, only believe” (Mark 5:36). No situation is too hopeless for God.
  4. Complaining Clouds Gratitude – The Israelites craved Egypt’s food rather than appreciating God’s miraculous provision (Numbers 11:4-6). When we focus on what we lack, we lose sight of God’s blessings.
  5. Faith Requires Action – Caleb and Joshua urged the Israelites to trust God and move forward, but fear held the people back (Numbers 13:30). Similarly, the woman took the step to touch Jesus, and Jairus sought Him out. Faith is demonstrated in action.

Connection to Other Scripture:

  • Hebrews 11:6 – “But without faith it is impossible to please him.” Faith is the foundation of our relationship with God.
  • 2 Timothy 1:7 – “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” Fear is never from God—He calls us to walk in faith and confidence.
  • Isaiah 41:10 – “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God.” God’s presence is the answer to every fear we face.

Questions to Reflect On:

  1. What “giants” in your life are causing you to doubt God’s promises?
  2. Do you trust in God’s provision, or do you find yourself complaining like the Israelites?
  3. How can you take a step of faith today, like the woman who reached out to Jesus?
  4. Are you letting fear hold you back from what God has called you to do?
  5. How can you remind yourself to focus on God’s power instead of the obstacles before you?

A Prayer for Today:

Heavenly Father, forgive me for the times I have let fear and doubt take over my heart. Help me to trust You completely, even when the giants in my life seem overwhelming. Strengthen my faith like Jairus and the woman who reached out to You. Remind me that Your power is greater than any challenge I face. I choose to believe in Your promises, to walk forward in faith, and to trust in Your provision. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
