Power with Purpose
Morning: Judges 15-17
Evening: Luke 10:1-24
In Judges 15–17, we continue the story of Samson—a man empowered by God, yet often consumed by personal vengeance and impulsive decisions. Even as God used him to deliver Israel, Samson frequently acted from pride and emotion rather than purpose and obedience. By contrast, Luke 10:1–24 shows Jesus sending out the seventy disciples with clarity and purpose: to preach, to heal, and to proclaim the kingdom of God. They return with joy, amazed at the power God gave them.
The difference is striking—Samson’s strength caused destruction, while the disciples’ strength brought healing and salvation. Both had power from God, but only one group walked in His purpose. This reminds us that God’s gifts are not for self-glory or revenge—they are for His mission.
Whether we’re leading, serving, or simply navigating life’s challenges, the key is to stay aligned with God’s will. Spiritual power is most effective when it’s paired with spiritual direction. When we live with purpose, rooted in God’s mission, we find lasting joy and impact.
Key Insights
- God Gives Us Power with Purpose – Like Samson and the seventy disciples, we are given abilities and influence to advance God’s kingdom, not our own agendas.
- Unchecked Emotions Can Derail Our Calling – Samson’s anger often led to destruction (Judges 15:7-8); emotional maturity is vital for spiritual stewardship.
- The Joy of Obedience Surpasses the Thrill of Power – The disciples rejoiced not just in miracles, but in knowing their names were written in heaven (Luke 10:20).
- Spiritual Maturity Requires Direction – Power without purpose leads to chaos, but purpose directed by God leads to peace and fruitfulness.
- God Delights in Revealing Himself to the Humble – Jesus praised the Father for revealing deep truths to those with childlike hearts (Luke 10:21).

- Do I respond to challenges with prayerful purpose or emotional reaction?
- How can I align more of my daily life with the mission of God?
- Do I find joy in being used by God, or am I more focused on outcomes and recognition?
- What does it mean for me personally to have my name “written in heaven”?
A Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father, thank You for entrusting me with gifts and influence. Help me to use them with wisdom, humility, and a heart aligned with Your purpose. Teach me to respond not with emotion, but with obedience. May I find joy not in what I can do, but in who I belong to—You. Keep me humble and focused on eternity. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
