Remember, Obey, and Love the Lord
Morning: Deuteronomy 8-10
Evening: Mark 12:28-44
In Deuteronomy 8-10, Moses reminds the Israelites of God’s faithfulness during their journey in the wilderness. Despite their disobedience, God provided for them, leading them to the Promised Land. Moses urges them to remember the Lord, keep His commandments, and love Him wholeheartedly. Similarly, in Mark 12:28-44, Jesus emphasizes the greatest commandment — to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love our neighbor as ourselves.
Our human tendency is to forget God in seasons of abundance and to question Him in seasons of hardship. Yet, God’s love remains constant, and His call to obedience and love never changes. Today, we are reminded to keep our hearts anchored in Him — not only by remembering His works but by responding to His love with sincere devotion.
Key Insights
- Remember God’s Faithfulness: Just as God provided for Israel in the wilderness, He continues to provide for us today. Remembering His past goodness strengthens our faith during present challenges (Deut 8:2-4).
- Stay Humble in Blessings: When life is good, it’s easy to forget God. Moses warned Israel not to let prosperity make them prideful, and the same applies to us. Our blessings are a gift from God, not a result of our own doing (Deut 8:11-14).
- Obedience Leads to Blessing: Obedience is a reflection of our love for God. When we follow His commandments, we align ourselves with His will and purpose (Deut 10:12-13).
- Love is the Greatest Commandment: Jesus simplified all of God’s commands into two — love God and love others. When we prioritize love, everything else falls into place (Mark 12:30-31).
- A Humble Heart Pleases God: Jesus commended the widow who gave two mites, not for the amount but for her heart of sacrifice. God values the posture of our heart more than the measure of our giving (Mark 12:41-44).
Connection to Other Scripture
- Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV): “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
- 1 John 4:19 (KJV): “We love him, because he first loved us.”
- Luke 12:15 (KJV): “Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.”

A Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your faithfulness throughout every season of my life. Help me to remember Your goodness when I am blessed and to trust You when I face challenges. Keep my heart humble, obedient, and full of love for You and others. Let my life be a reflection of Your grace and mercy, and may my actions always align with Your will. Teach me to give not out of abundance but from a heart surrendered to You. I love You, Lord, and I desire to walk closely with You today and always. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
