Trusting God’s Plan and Provision

Morning: Exodus 4-6
Evening: Matthew 16

When God called Moses to lead Israel out of Egypt, Moses wrestled with doubt—about himself, his abilities, and even God’s plan (Exodus 4:10-13). Yet God reminded him, “Who hath made man’s mouth? … Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth” (Exodus 4:11-12). Similarly, in Matthew 16, Peter confessed Jesus as the Christ, yet later, he struggled to understand God’s bigger plan (Matthew 16:16-23). These passages remind us that even when we feel inadequate or confused, God’s purposes are not limited by our weaknesses. He equips, provides, and works all things for His glory and our good.

Key Insights:

  1. God equips those He calls. When Moses doubted his ability to speak, God promised His presence and provision (Exodus 4:12). Whatever God calls us to, He will supply what we need to accomplish it.
  2. God’s plan often challenges human understanding. Peter couldn’t comprehend why Jesus would have to suffer and die (Matthew 16:22). God’s ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9).
  3. Faith requires surrender. Both Moses and Peter had to learn to trust God’s plan even when it didn’t align with their expectations or abilities.
  4. God works through our weaknesses. Moses’ hesitation didn’t stop God’s work, and Peter’s impulsiveness didn’t disqualify him. God’s power is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).
  5. Our focus must remain on Christ. Peter’s confession that Jesus is the Christ (Matthew 16:16) is the foundation of faith. Fixing our eyes on Him keeps us grounded, even in uncertainty.

Connection to Other Scripture:
Isaiah 41:10 reinforces God’s assurance of His presence and help: “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” Like Moses and Peter, we are called to step out in faith, trusting God to uphold us.

Questions to Reflect On:

  1. What fears or doubts are holding you back from obeying God’s call in your life?
  2. How can you remind yourself of God’s presence and provision when you feel inadequate?
  3. Are there areas where you struggle to surrender to God’s plan? What steps can you take to trust Him more fully?
  4. How does Peter’s confession of Jesus as the Christ challenge you to reaffirm your faith in Him?
  5. In what ways have you seen God use your weaknesses for His glory?

A Prayer for Today:
Heavenly Father, thank You for calling us to be part of Your plans, even when we feel unworthy or unprepared. Remind us that You are the One who equips and strengthens us. Help us to trust in Your wisdom and surrender to Your will, even when we don’t understand. Thank You for working through our weaknesses and for the assurance of Your presence. Teach us to keep our eyes on Christ and to walk in faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
